El Monte Transit
Village is planned as a town center in the San Gabriel Valley,
designed for people who enjoy living in an active community,
walking to work, shopping for goods, and services within close
proximity to their homes. It will be a place united by a diverse
culture where residents typically run into their neighbors in a
coffee house or at the movie theater – a
self-contained neighborhood offering an array of residential
types, sidewalks, parks, restaurants, offices and shops.
Residents will easily reach public transportation to travel to other
major centers such as downtown Los Angeles, neighboring cities
in the San Gabriel Valley, or eastward to the Inland Empire.
Regional Significance
The Transit Village will be built in the City of El Monte, just
15 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, in the heart of an ethnically
diverse San Gabriel Valley. It will sit on 60-plus acres, north
of the Interstate 10 Freeway, and bounded by the Rio Hondo River
Channel on the west, Santa Anita Avenue on the east, and Valley
Boulevard on the north. It will surround the El Monte Bus Station,
an already existing regional transit center being developed into
a regional intermodal transportation hub for the San Gabriel
Valley region.
